Do Vapes Have Calories?

One of the very best things about vaping is that we can treat ourselves to the most indulgent flavors without the guilt – like sticky and sweet candies, rich and creamy custard, sugary cereals, and more. Anyone who’s got a sweet tooth can satisfy their cravings on demand, without it sabotaging their diet in any way.

But, with that being said, there’s something else to consider, which is: Do vapes have calories? And if so, what does that mean for someone who’s trying to watch their calories in an effort to lose weight?

How Many Calories Are in a Vape?

Vape juices come in different flavors, but their general composition is the same, whether they be freebase nicotine or salt-based nicotine e-liquids. Vape juices contain a combination of flavoring extract, nicotine extract, vegetable glycerin (VG), and propylene glycol (PG). Pretty simple, right?

Now, given that vape juices generally share the same formula, we can speak for the majority of them that exist on the market when talking about how many calories they contain. And the answer is not that many. Now, vape juice is going to have some calories because certain ingredients in them have calories. But, the amount is extremely small. The average 1ml of e-liquid contains about 4-5 calories, which isn’t much at all. Consider that 1ml is about the average amount of e-juice a vaper goes through in a day, and you’ll see why 4-5 calories will not make any meaningful difference in terms of your overall daily caloric intake.

Now, another thing to keep in mind is that when you vape, you’re not ingesting calories. Instead, you’re inhaling them into the lungs. Unsurprisingly perhaps, there’s no conclusive research determining how calories affect us, and particularly our weight, when we inhale them as opposed to ingesting them. But logic would tell us that it’s likely inhaling calories in vape juice has less of an impact than ingesting them.

Does Vaping Make You Lose Weight?

Now you know that when it comes to vape calories, the amount is so minimal that it won’t make a dent in your weight loss journey. Not only that but there are a few ways in which vaping can make us actually lose weight. Let’s cover those key ways now.

  • Satisfaction of Cravings: As we said before, vape juice flavors are inspired by our favorite treats, whether they be gooey and rich desserts or sugary sweet candies—and everything in between. Vaping can satisfy our sweet tooth so that we’re less likely to reach into the cupboard, and that alone can play a role in weight loss if you’re trying to curb sugar cravings.
  • Appetite Suppression: Many believe that nicotine is a natural appetite suppressant, which means that the nicotine in e-liquids may be able to help manage cravings for food by decreasing our urges to eat.
  • Increase in Metabolism: The nicotine in vapes is a stimulant, and stimulants can increase metabolism, which can aid in weight loss. Like other stimulants, nicotine can make a variety of physiological processes speed up, so you can burn fat more quickly by vaping. There’s no way to determine precisely how much nicotine can speed up metabolism since there are too many biological and logistical factors involved, but keep in mind that the average person gains 5-10 pounds after quitting nicotine, which tells us that nicotine does play an active role in keeping weight down.
  • Satisfaction of Oral Fixation: Another thing to keep in mind is that many of us have an oral fixation, which means that even when we’re not hungry, we’re addicted to the act of putting something to our mouth, like a snack. Vaping can curb this habit by acting as an alternative to actual food products.

We don’t recommend vaping for weight loss. There are other, more medically sound, and more effective ways to lose weight, such as changing diet, improving exercise, and forming a healthier relationship with food by addressing any underlying psychological factors.

Does Vaping Make You Gain Weight?

So, we’ve talked about the relationship between weight loss and vape products, but can you gain weight from vaping? Well, no, there is no direct relationship between vaping and weight gain. There’s just nothing about vaping that would directly cause a person to gain weight, so that’s not something anyone needs to worry about.

Does Nicotine Have Calories?

We’ve covered the question, “Does vaping have calories?” but what about nicotine itself? The answer is simple: nicotine does not contain any calories whatsoever. If you were thinking that switching to a different nicotine strength would change the caloric value of an e-liquid, know that it wouldn’t.

Final Vape Calorie Counting Thoughts

Essentially, while vape juices do have calories, the amount of calories you’ll be vaping per day is so small that it won’t have any impact on your weight whatsoever. Even heavy vapers who go through multiple milliliters daily are taking in, at most, 20-30 calories.

As you now know, vaping can contribute to weight loss in a few different ways, including its effects on metabolism, sugar cravings, and appetite. Again, we have to mention that if you are looking to lose weight, it’s still best to rely on more conventional methods that are proven to work.

However, if you’ve been avoiding vaping out of a concern that you’ll gain weight, you can rest easy. Vape juices do not play any role in weight gain, so there’s nothing to worry about. With that being said, we invite you to head over to Vape Juice Depot and explore our enormous selection of indulgent e-juice flavors that can give you what you crave without the weight gain.
