Vape Pen Not Working After Charge

Did you know that vape pens come in various variations, from disposable vape pens that contain nicotine e-liquids to dab pens used for vaporizing super potent herbal concentrates? Well, now you do. Vape pens are more varied than ever in terms of their features, designs, and customizability, but one thing that they all share in common is that, from time to time, they won’t work like they’re supposed to. If your disposable vape pen is not working after charge, there are a few culprits to consider, as we will review them today.

What is a Vape Pen?

So, what is a vape pen, and what is in a vape pen? A vape pen is a general term for any vaping system with a pen-like design. This can range from a disposable vape with a built-in battery that’s often non-rechargeable to a pen mod, which is part of a more advanced sub-ohm system. Most vape pens use integrated (built-in) batteries, but more advanced systems, like pen mods, typically use a single lithium-ion battery that’s removable and charged separately.

Vape pens attach to cartridges or tanks, where you’ll find the e-liquid and the coil. They can come with various output settings, as you’ll see with pen mods and pod mods, or they’ll operate at a fixed output level, which is typical with simpler pod mods and disposable vapes.

Why is My Vape Pen Not Working?

With pen mods that use a separately maintained battery, the first thing you would do if your vape pen isn’t working after a charge is try a different battery. But, assuming you’re using a vape pen with a built-in battery, what does it mean if the device isn’t working after you’ve charged it up?

The Battery is Dead

Sometimes, the issue is simply that your built-in battery has run its course. This is inevitable with disposables since most are non-rechargeable and not meant to last. With a pod system, that integrated battery is also likely to die out at some point, just due to age. A key indicator is if the light isn’t blinking when you inhale, which tells you that the problem is the battery and not another component of the vaping system.

The Device is Clogged

If the light blinks when you pull, but nothing comes out, it’s probably not the battery. The issue could be a clog in your vaping setup, either caused by debris or gunked-up e-liquid. Either way, a regular cotton swab can usually unclog the device unless the clog is deep inside the atomizer and you’re using a disposable device that does not allow you to access the inside.

The Connection is Faulty

Maybe the problem isn’t that the battery is dead, but the connection isn’t working. If you’re using a non-disposable device, check the connections between the device and the atomizer and the area where the battery connects to the charger. If there’s gunk or a loose piece, the device won’t receive power properly and you’ll need to clean the device or replace one of the components.

The Device Has Overheated

If a device has overheated, either due to being left out in the heat or you taking so many hits in a short period that the device has gotten too hot, it won’t work. In this case, you just need to stop vaping and allow the device to cool back down.

What is a Dab Pen

Dab pens are different from vape pens used for nicotine because they’re designed to vaporize dabs – aka herbal concentrates that must reach higher temperatures than e-liquids to melt properly. Dab pens, like vape pens, range in design, output settings, power, and how many individual components they are. But, most dab pens operate the same way as vape pens, consisting of a battery, a chamber for the concentrate, and a coil heating element.

Why is My Dab Pen Not Working

If your dab pen isn’t working, it’s likely due to one of the issues we listed above since dab pens follow the same basic technological principles as vape pens. However, a couple of things to consider can dictate how you troubleshoot the problem.

For one thing, dab pens operate at higher output levels, as we said earlier. So, a dab pen battery may not last for as long as a vape pen battery due to its amount of output, which leads to needing to be charged more frequently. In other words, a dab pen battery will likely need to be replaced sooner than a vape pen battery.

Another thing is that due to the nature of concentrates, compared to e-liquids, dab pens are more likely to get clogged. Dabs are thick substances that are more likely to gunk up the inside of your device, interfering with airflow until you give the device a good cleaning.

How to fix a vape pen

If your vape pen isn’t working after a charge, the good news is that, in most cases, it’s not the end of the world. There are plenty of simple fixes to the most common culprits, and you’ll be able to get back to vaping in no time.

If you’ve tried all of the options above and are still not getting your pen to work, it may be time to replace your battery or device altogether. At Vape Juice Depot, we offer a wide array of hardware pieces that can replace our faulty vape pen, all made by the most trusted names in the industry, to ensure that you’re using high-quality and reliable technology.
